SCOTUS vs POTUS

What Makes US Great?

It was facinating and a blessing to be able to listen to the SCOTUS’s questions and arguments today for a couple hours.

I have a much higher appreciation and gratitude for the simple elegance and effectiveness of our United States Constitution, the history and crafting of our laws and our mechanism of balance of powers.

I’m flabergasted and filled with wonder by the simple elegance of our Constitution and how it was put together by our Founding Fathers.

With the exception of one, I felt like all the justices were extremely well informed on the history of our Constitution, the history of our laws and the possible impacts their decisions will have on the future of our country.

The lawyers doing the arguing, especially the one for the DOJ, were excellent and at the top of their profession. What I mostly listened in on during my 2 hours was the questioning of the lawyer for the DOJ and he was absolutely brilliant.

The arguments of DOJ lawyer, even if he was at times breathless and not always calm, was a joy to listen to. You could tell the judges were, mostly, enjoying immensely sparring in legalese with him. They respected his level of preparedness and the depth of his knowledge of American Law and the Constitution.

I think the judges mostly appreciated that. I mean, being there, arguing at that level, having the opportunity to play your chosen game at the highest level, could be emotionally challenging to anyone. It would be like me singing along on stage with Steve Tyler because I’d earned that privelege through my talent, hard work and passion to be my best.

In any case, I feel like we, as Americans, have gone through living in the same house as our crazy uncle who has an addiction to stealing 100% of our attention 24/7.

In many ways, I feel like we’ve been forced to live in that house with that crazy uncle’s extreme antics and annoying obsession and are somewhat traumatized by it.

I feel like we’ve subsequently moved into the home of our wise grandfather who leaves us alone for the most part and whose house is ruled by wisdom and experience and supported by a large community.

I do also feel like that crazy uncle found out where we moved and keeps showing up at the windows and doors threatening to break in and assail us with his annoying presence on a more personal level again.

I know, not all problems in the world will be handled well 100% all of the time by our government or any government for that matter. We’re all human, right? And, I don’t expect Joe Biden to be perfect but, I do feel like “Liberty and Justice for All” means that no-one should be above our laws and the person we hired to keep things looking tidy around our homeland should be working in all of our best interest, not primarily his/her own.

I feel that scamming the game we all agreed to play and disrespecting the rules we all agreed to play by is not doing it “with Liberty and Justice for all”.

I have nothing against playing the “power game.” I just feel like the game of Life, including the power game, like sports, should be played with the utmost human integrity, human intelligence and human skills and talents.

We expect that of our sports heros. Should we not expect that of the person we choose to be the leader of the free world?

Expecting and celebrating greatness is what makes America Great. That’s why we’ve always, in the past, been Great. I’m pretty sure We’re Still Great, we’ll weather more storms to come and emerge even greater for all of our challenges. That’s. what. Americans. Do.

Scamming and breaking the rules should be reason to be ejected from the game. Bottom Line.

What do you think?
